VDM Group Ltd (VMG) has completed an ambitious systems integration program with the introduction of a state of the art document and information management system for its VDM Consulting operations across Australia and Dubai.
It is just one of a growing list of Australian companies to ignore the traditional global software giants and opt for VBM, the ultimate visual business information and data management system, incorporating a unique relational file system.
VantageKey, a locally owned and operated information management specialist, applied the progressive, enterprise grade VBM system across 14 separate VDM Consulting sites within an impressive three months. The project supports VDM Consulting Chief Operating Officer Bob Gregg’s vision to position the division for dynamic future growth and alignment of all operations to function as a cohesive national engineering group. Mr Gregg said despite the challenges associated with a divisional wide systems upgrade VBM had been extremely well accepted across all operations in a short period of time.
“Our main motivator for investing in a new information management system was improving our collaboration capabilities and delivering better business outcomes through standardization and greater efficiencies,” he said. “It has empowered the Consulting division to control our information and intellectual property and allowed us to immediately raise the bar when it comes to client service and delivery,” he said.
VantageKey Managing Director, Dee Broadmore, worked closely with VDM Consulting’s Business Systems Manager Michael McGinty to direct the VBM project from initial needs analysis through to implementation and user training.
“Twelve months ago we accepted the challenge to bring together 14 disparate engineering offices from across Australia and as far as Dubai – each with its own standards, work methods and culture,” said Mr McGinty.
“We created the VDM Consulting Business Management System (BMS) which unified these offices under a common business platform and is also helping us gain ISO 9001 accreditation across the Division.
“This allowed us to standardise our work practices including deployment of a common filing system and it is now the single most important tool underpinning the security of our intellectual property,” he said.
Ms Broadmore said service firms around the world were under mounting pressure to ensure their information management systems were fully auditable and trackable, and simple storage and retrieval email facilities were no longer appropriate.
“There is no other information management system on the market that has VBM’s unique functionality and that is as versatile and robust, and VDM Consulting was pleasantly surprised how quickly it improved their ability to manage large volumes of documentation, whilst having appropriate fences between discipline data.”
“The legal compliance requirements on large, complex projects both here and overseas are huge and so are the risks associated with the loss of intellectual property,” she said. “VBM works on existing software systems and has a range of built in unique features automated transmittals, create, import and export facilities, advanced email, linking and document tracking capabilities.

Ms Broadmore said international interest in VBM was also growing with VantageKey receiving a number of overseas inquiries in recent months.
